Prime Minister of Ukraine met with General Secretary of the European Evangelical Alliance Jan Wessels
Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal met with General Secretary of the European Jan Wessels. The parties discussed social projects, the involvement of Protestant churches in helping the military and civilians, as well as assistance to Ukraine.
"We highly appreciate the position of the Alliance in support of the Ukrainian people in our struggle against the russian invaders. Evangelical Protestant churches are actively involved in the activities of the Ukrainian Council of Churches and Religious Organisations. Their contribution to helping the Ukrainian forefront and home front, to those who Evangelical Alliance need help, is highly significant," said Denys Shmyhal.
The Prime Minister informed about russia's crimes against believers in the temporarily occupied territories. Thus, according to him, since 2014, the russian occupiers have killed at least 70 clergymen, Protestant communities are persecuted, clergymen are abducted and tortured, and independent religious organisations are banned.
"Ukraine is fighting for freedom - both spiritual and national," said Denys Shmyhal and thanked Jan Wessels for his support of the Ukrainian people, solidarity and prayers.
The participants of the meeting discussed humanitarian initiatives, including the demining programme. The Prime Minister stressed the need for the liberated territories to become safe for life, restoration of communities and service.
Denys Shmyhal noted the importance of the spiritual and humanitarian support provided by the European Evangelical Alliance to Ukraine.
"It is important for us that our friends and allies in the world convey the truth about the Ukrainian struggle for the values of freedom, human dignity and faith to a wide audience," said Denys Shmyhal.
