Ukraine is the key of Europe's security: Oleksandr Korniienko concludes visit to the Czech Republic
Recently, Oleksandr Korniienko, First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, has completed a visit to the Czech Republic, where he took part in the 20th anniversary GLOBSEC Forum, which took place on 12-14 June 2025.
This year's GLOBSEC Forum focused on global challenges, including geopolitical dynamics in the European Union, the ongoing war in Ukraine, and instability in the Middle East. Participants discussed energy security, defence, migration, competitiveness and the impact of changes in leading European countries. Considerable attention was paid to the growing role of the Global South and global technological competition
In his speech, Oleksandr Korniienko focused on the specifics of Ukraine's European integration and the mutual opportunities offered by EU enlargement. He said that more than 75% of the provisions of the Association Agreement have already been implemented, and the Ukraine Facility plan, which links reforms to funding, has been fully implemented in a year. He stressed that the Verkhovna Rada is currently focused on only two areas: supporting the army and preparing for EU membership.
«Ukraine is now actively moving along the European integration path and is seeking to become a full member. On the one hand, this is an opportunity for the accession country. On the other hand, it is an opportunity for the EU itself to gain new experience. For example, we have made significant progress in the digitalisation of services and are ready to share our achievements and expand new practices,» said Oleksandr Korniienko.
During his visit to the Czech Republic, the First Deputy Speaker Oleksandr Korniienko held a number of meetings with parliamentarians of the Czech and Slovak Republics, as well as with representatives of international organisations.
Oleksandr Korniienko discussed the current security situation and the consequences of russian shelling of Ukrainian cities with the Deputy Chairman of the Chamber of Deputies Jan Bartoszek. «In this regard, he stressed the importance of strengthening military support and training for Ukrainian pilots. In addition, it is essential to increase domestic production of weapons. russia demonstrates that it is not going to stop and intends to continue the war,» said Oleksandr Korniienko.
According to him, the meeting also touched upon the issue of Ukraine's accession to the EU. The First Deputy Speaker informed about the results achieved and the current stage of integration, assuring that Ukraine's pace in this process will continue to be high, as our country's membership in the European Union is one of the priority goals, which is being worked on at all levels.
Olexander Korniienko also met with the Deputy Chairmen of the Senate of the Czech Parliament Jitka Sejtlova and Jiří Oberfalzer. The parties focused on the geopolitical situation, in particular, on Ukraine's European integration negotiations, ongoing russian aggression against our country and the growing intensity of missile attacks.
In addition, the First Vice Speaker had a conversation with representatives of Amazon Web Services. «The company has become one of those whose contribution to Ukraine's digital resilience during the war cannot be overestimated. Almost $100 million in cloud loans, technical expertise, and humanitarian aid is an example of true technological solidarity. We talked about the current legal regulation of cloud services,» Oleksandr Korniienko noted. He assured that the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine is ready to continue creating progressive legislative conditions for the development of cloud infrastructure, digital services and innovations.
Oleksandr Korniienko stressed the importance of holding russia accountable for its criminal actions, which not only threaten Ukraine but also undermine the security and stability of Europe. «It is important for everyone to be more decisive about russian crimes and hybrid warfare,» he emphasized.
Oleksandr Korniienko thanked the countries that stand by Ukraine and strive for a just and comprehensive peace. «The unity of the world and decisive joint actions against the enemy are important to stop it and prevent the repetition of aggression forever,» summed up the First Deputy Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.
