The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Rulan Stefanchuk called for increased support for Ukraine at the Weimar Triangle meeting

The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Rulan Stefanchuk took part in the meeting of the Weimar Triangle countries at the invitation of the Presidents of the Upper Houses of Parliament of France, Germany and Poland.

During the meeting the parties had a frank discussion on further steps to strengthen support for Ukraine in countering russia's armed aggression. As the Chairman of the Ukrainian Parliament emphasised, today Ukraine is deterring the enemy not only for its own sake, but for the sake of the whole of Europe.

The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine outlined that despite a full-scale invasion, our country is on its European integration course and implements the necessary reforms. «We clearly understand that we belong in the EU. And it is very important that the political decision to start accession negotiations is made this summer,» said Ruslan Stefanchuk.

In his speech he also paid attention to the importance of systematic and projected military support, expanding sanctions pressure on russia, introducing a transparent mechanism for confiscating frozen assets of the russian federation, as well as bringing to justice all those responsible for war crimes.

It was symbolic that the meeting took place on 4 June, the Day of Remembrance of Children Who Died as a Result of russian aggression. «It is our common responsibility to ensure that no child in Europe lives under shelling,» said the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.

Following the meeting, a joint statement was adopted condemning russia's crimes against Ukraine, reaffirming support for the territorial integrity, independence and sovereignty of our country, and stressing the need to pay reparations. The parliamentarians of the Weimar Triangle supported the establishment of the Special Tribunal for the Crime of Aggression, declared their readiness to join the post-war reconstruction of Ukraine and reaffirmed their support for Ukraine's European and Euro-Atlantic integration.

The Head of the Ukrainian Parliament stressed that together Ukraine and its allies must protect not only the state, but also European values, peace and justice.
