Government approves negotiation positions for EU accession on two clusters: Denys Shmyhal
The Ukrainian Government has approved negotiation positions for EU accession concerning two additional clusters. This was announced by Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal during a Cabinet meeting on 30 May.
“Recently, the Government approved Ukraine’s negotiation position for Cluster 1 – Fundamentals. The document has already been submitted to the European Commission. Today, we are reviewing and approving negotiation positions for Cluster 2 – Internal Market and Cluster 6 – External Relations,” he stated.
Denys Shmyhal emphasised that the second cluster covered key aspects of the EU single market’s functioning, including the free movement of goods, services, labour, and capital, as well as competition rules and consumer rights protection, which are crucial for Ukrainian businesses and citizens. The sixth cluster outlines Ukraine’s role in the EU’s common foreign policy, security, and defence, including its contribution to Europe’s stability and protection against the russian threat.
The Prime Minister stressed that these official documents, containing Ukraine’s proposals, outlined priorities and commitments on the path to EU membership.
According to him, the European Commission plans to open negotiations on Cluster 1 in June. “We have moved at a record pace from submitting our EU membership application to launching pre-accession negotiations. Our ambitious goal for 2025 is to open all six negotiation clusters with the EU in parallel,” Denys Shmyhal underscored.
