The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Ruslan Stefanchuk held a meeting with the leadership of the Spanish Parliament

As part of his working visit to Hungary to participate in the Conference of Speakers of the Parliaments of the European Union Member States, held in Budapest, the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Ruslan Stefanchuk  held a meeting with the President of the Congress of Deputies of Spain Francis Armengol, and the President of the Senate of Spain Pedro Rolland Ojeda.

Ruslan Stefanchuk expressed his gratitude to Francina Armengol for her personal stance and the consistent support of Ukraine by the Spanish Parliament. He highly valued Spain’s accession to the joint statement of parliamentary leaders adopted on the third anniversary of russia’s full-scale invasion.

«Europe must remain united in countering russian aggression. Today, as in the past, Moscow responds only to strength. Therefore, peace must be just — with no concessions regarding Ukrainian territories, the Defense Forces, or Ukraine’s sovereign right to choose its own path», emphasized the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.

Ruslan Stefanchuk stated that Ukraine is prepared for a temporary 30-day ceasefire as a first step toward dialogue, while simultaneously continuing to strengthen its defense capabilities. «Success on the battlefield has a direct impact on the outcome of negotiations», he emphasized.

During the discussion, the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine called on the Spanish side to further enhance military assistance, invest in Ukraine’s defense-industrial sector, support the “Coalition of the Willing” initiative for the deployment of a security contingent, pursue the confiscation of frozen russian assets, and maintain sustained sanctions pressure on russia.

Particular attention was devoted to Ukraine’s European integration efforts. Ruslan Stefanchuk noted that Ukraine has already completed the screening process for three clusters and stands ready to begin negotiations on the relevant chapters.
