President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy honored the memory of those killed in a Russian missile strike on Kryvyi Rih on April 4.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Serhiy Lysak, Head of the Dnipropetrovsk Regional Military Administration, visited the site of the strike. Russian occupiers launched a ballistic missile at the city, hitting an area next to apartment buildings and a children's playground, last Friday afternoon. This attack claimed the lives of 19 people, 9 of them children. The youngest was only 3 years old. Another 75 Ukrainians, including 17 children, were injured. Doctors are fighting to save the wounded.
During the rescue operation, which began immediately after the missile strike, the Russian Federation launched a drone attack on residential buildings and infrastructure. As a result, one person was killed, and five others were wounded.
The attack also damaged 60 apartment buildings, 23 private houses, and three educational institutions.
The President Holds a Meeting on Strengthening Air Defense in the Dnipro Region
In Kryvyi Rih, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a meeting on strengthening the air defense capabilities of Ukraine and, particularly, of the Dnipro region using aircraft, helicopters, and additional air defense systems. The meeting was attended by the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, General Oleksandr Syrskyi.
Since the beginning of this year alone, the Dnipro region has endured 2,100 airstrikes, almost twice as many as during the same period last year.
The Head of State received reports from Acting Commander of the Ukrainian Air Force Anatolii Kryvonozhko, Chief of the Anti-Aircraft Missile Troops of the Ukrainian Air Force Vitalii Palahuta, and Chief of the Electronic Warfare Department of the AFU Support Forces Ivan Pavlenko.
The military officials reported on efforts to defend the Dnipro region from aerial threats. In particular, work is ongoing to increase the number of mobile fire groups, light aviation, and anti-aircraft artillery. Crews are also being equipped for operations at night and in adverse weather conditions, while interceptor drones are being deployed to combat Russian UAVs, including “Shahed” drones.
In addition, the meeting addressed the further development of the electronic warfare system for Ukraine in general and for the Dnipro region specifically. The President instructed the Government to allocate an additional UAH 540 million for the development of the electronic warfare system in the region.
“We held an important meeting on strengthening air defense in the Dnipro region. We are working, and I believe we will be able to reinforce the region with two systems in the near future. A program to reinforce it with electronic warfare systems has been developed in general. I am confident that the Cabinet of Ministers will support this decision, and the funds will be allocated,” the President concluded.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy Visited Wounded Warriors and Honored Them with State Awards
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy visited a medical facility in Kryvyi Rih where wounded defenders are receiving treatment.
The Head of State was informed of the work of the hospital, including the diagnostic and rehabilitation methods for the military.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy spoke with the warriors who are undergoing treatment in this medical institution and awarded them with the Orders “For Courage,” III class. The defenders were wounded while carrying out combat missions in the Donetsk and Kursk regions.
“Thank you for your service and for defending Ukraine. I wish you a speedy recovery,” the President said.
The President Met with Representatives of the Communities of the Dnipro Region
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy met in Kryvyi Rih with representatives of territorial communities of Nikopol, Synelnykove, and Kryvyi Rih districts of the Dnipro region that face constant Russian shelling.
“I want to thank the communities for holding on, working, supporting people, and helping the warriors,” the Head of State said.
The President shared the outcomes of the meeting regarding the strengthening of air defense. He also noted that the Cabinet of Ministers needs to make a decision on the allocation of additional funds for the functioning of frontline communities.
In addition, the meeting addressed the reconstruction of destroyed housing and hospitals, the supply of drinking water to communities, and the restoration of mobile communication equipment.
The Head of the Dnipropetrovsk Regional Military Administration Serhiy Lysak reported that the region continues reconstruction of housing and infrastructure despite the shelling.
The First Deputy Head of the Dnipropetrovsk Regional Military Administration, Yurii Yandulskyi, provided information on infrastructure projects being implemented in the region. In particular, these include the reconstruction of Hospital No. 2 in Kryvyi Rih and dormitories for internally displaced persons in Dnipro, the construction of a water pipeline in Pidhorodne, and the installation of modular heating stations in Zelenodolsk and gas turbines in Zhovti Vody.
