Denys Shmyhal and MEPs address joint military production and European integration issues

Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal met with members of the European Parliament's Group of Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats. The delegation was headed by Iratxe Garcia Pérez.

The key topics of the conversation between the Head of the Ukrainian Government and MEPs were the reform of Ukraine as well as European integration. The parties discussed further steps in this direction.

“Next year we expect to open the first negotiation clusters. In the long run, Ukraine's membership in the EU will bring a number of benefits to both parties,” said Denys Shmyhal.

The participants focused on the issue of joint military production between Ukraine and the European Union. The Prime Minister emphasized the importance of further support for Ukraine's defense industry.

Another topic of the meeting was the strengthening of the Ukrainian economy and its long-term development. Denys Shmyhal noted that Ukraine highly appreciates the support of the European Union for the economic and social recovery of our country.

The Head of Government outlined to the MEPs the priority areas of our country's reconstruction. These include the construction and reconstruction of housing, humanitarian demining, support for critical infrastructure and business. The parties also coordinated urgent needs in the energy sector.

Denys Shmyhal emphasized that Ukraine counts on the continuation of the EU's sanctions pressure against russia and the complete confiscation of frozen russian assets.

“We express our gratitude for the strong voice of the newly elected European Parliament in promoting critical decisions that help Ukraine and our people resist the russian invasion,” the Prime Minister emphasized.

In turn, MEPs assured of continued support, in particular, on the path of Ukraine's rapprochement with the European Union.
