The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, Ruslan Stefanchuk, discussed with the delegation of the European Parliament support for Ukraine and called for strengthening sanctions against russia
Ruslan Stefanchuk, The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, met with the delegation of the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats political group in the European Parliament, led by Irace Gracia Perez, and congratulated them on their election to the European Parliament.
During the meeting, he thanked the newly elected members of the European Parliament for their strong position and support for key resolutions on Ukraine. He called the decisions on lifting restrictions on the use of Western weapons, strengthening sanctions pressure on russia, and providing additional weapons for Ukraine's defence, particularly meaningful.
Ruslan Stefanchuk noted the high level of cooperation between the Ukrainian Parliament and the European Parliament, particularly at the committee level, which is key to Ukraine's European integration course. He highlighted that the Verkhovna Rada is actively working on adopting the legislation necessary for EU membership and called for increased interaction between Ukrainian and European parliamentarians.
The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada paid special attention to the issue of defence assistance and expressed gratitude to all EU countries for the support already provided. He stressed the need to strengthen Ukraine's air defence system and ensure timely delivery of the announced weapons.
"Sanctions can not be regarded as effective as long as russian weapons contain components manufactured in EU countries, the shadow russian fleet operates, and certain sectors of the russian economy remain outside the restrictions," the Speaker of the Ukrainian Parliament emphasized.
Ruslan Stefanchuk called for such implementing measures while preparing new sanctions packages, which the aggressor can not circumvent. He emphasized that unity, determination and strength of allies are the keys to Ukraine's victory and justice.
Separately, the parties discussed supporting Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky's Peace Formula and the Victory Plan. Ruslan Stefanchuk called on European parliamentarians to continue supporting Ukraine's initiatives to achieve a just end to the war.
