The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Ruslan Stefanchuk met with President of the Republic of Lithuania Gitanas Nausėda
At the beginning of the meeting, the Speaker of the Ukrainian Parliament emphasized that Ukraine highly appreciates the leadership, support and comprehensive assistance of Lithuania.
Ruslan Stefanchuk thanked Lithuania for its readiness to provide Ukraine with annual support in the field of security and defense in the amount of 0.25% of the country's GDP, as well as for the recent assistance package to Ukraine.
During the meeting, the parties paid special attention to the security situation. The Chairman of the Ukrainian Parliament stressed that the bold decisions of the allies to support Ukraine are extremely important for Ukraine. “This is the decision to allow Ukraine to strike with allied weapons against all legitimate military targets in russia. This is a consent to the use of air defense systems by our partners to shoot down missiles and drones on the territory of Ukraine near their airspace. This is the need to strengthen Ukraine's air defense system,” Ruslan Stefanchuk stressed.
The Chairman of the Ukrainian Parliament also noted Lithuania's determination to strengthen the sanctions policy against russia and its involvement in the adoption of political decisions by international organizations in support of Ukraine, in particular those related to the international isolation of russia.
An equally important issue is the support of the Republic of Lithuania for the Peace Formula of President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi. Ruslan Stefanchuk thanked Lithuania for its personal active involvement in this issue and its participation in the Global Peace Summit.
Special and significant attention was paid to the issue of Ukraine's European integration and its future in NATO. “I highly appreciate your firm belief that Ukraine's future lies in the EU and NATO. I am grateful for Lithuania's readiness to share its experience and support us on our European path,” the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine said.
At the end of the meeting, the parties discussed the restoration of Ukraine's energy infrastructure. Ruslan Stefanchuk expressed his gratitude for the equipment already provided and planned to be provided by the Lithuanian side, and his belief that cooperation between our countries will only grow.
