On the eve of the NATO Parliamentary Leaders' Summit, which is taking place in Washington, D.C., the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Ruslan Stefanchuk held a bilateral meeting with his counterpart, President of the Spanish Congress of Deputies Francina Armengol.
The Head of the Ukrainian Parliament thanked his colleague for her consistent support of Ukraine since the first days of the full-scale invasion. "Our country appreciates all the decisions that allow us to strengthen the defence capabilities of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, in particular, the recent decision to supply missiles for the Patriot system," Ruslan Stefanchuk said.
During the meeting, the Speaker of the Ukrainian Parliament informed about the situation in Ukraine, including the terrorist missile attack on civilians by russia today, which resulted in dozens of casualties.
Ruslan Stefanchuk asked to consider the possibility of strengthening the air defence of our country: "Ukraine needs more protection for our people. It is important to provide Ukraine with additional air defence systems. I expect that Spain will positively consider the issue of transferring one Patriot system to us," he said.
Ruslan Stefanchuk also expressed hope: "That the voice of the Spanish Parliament will be heard loudly in supporting Ukraine's membership in NATO."
"You see that russia stops at nothing to demonstrate to the whole world the atrocities of the war it is waging against Ukraine. And that is why we continue to rely on you, on your help in all areas: military, humanitarian, financial and other," he added.
Ruslan Stefanchuk informed Francina Armengol that as a result of the ongoing aggression, Ukraine has suffered huge losses in the economic and social spheres. The issue of recovery and reconstruction is widely discussed, and the main reconstruction process will begin after the war is over, but there are needs that require immediate intervention.
The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine initiated the launch of joint humanitarian projects with the participation of the Ukrainian and Spanish parliaments to restore social infrastructure destroyed by the aggressor.
Taking this opportunity, Ruslan Stefanchuk sincerely thanked his colleagues in the Spanish Parliament and the entire Spanish people for supporting Ukraine in this difficult time of war.
