The Speaker of the Parliament of Ukraine Ruslan Stefanchuk met with the President of the UN General Assembly Dennis Francis
"The United Nations and its General Assembly are an important platform where the international community must continue to demonstrate to russia that its aggression will have consequences," the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine said, expressing his gratitude to the President of the UN General Assembly, his team, the UN and the General Assembly for expressing clear support for Ukraine.
During the meeting, the parties focused on the implementation of the Peace Formula of the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi. For his part, the Speaker of the Parliament of Ukraine Ruslan Stefanchuk said that the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine is responsible and involved in the implementation of paragraph 5 of the Peace Formula – "Implementation of the UN Charter and restoration of the territorial integrity of Ukraine and the world order".
The interlocutors also discussed nuclear safety issues, given the occupation and militarisation of the ZNPP. "The UN's response to these threats is important," said Ruslan Stefanchuk. The parties also discussed the development and preparation of a resolution for the 78th session of the UN General Assembly on nuclear safety and security of Ukraine's nuclear facilities. "More than 40 countries have prepared a draft of the relevant document," said the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, calling on the President of the UN General Assembly to personally assist in the adoption of the resolution.
Particular attention was paid to the issue of food security. "Despite the security situation, Ukraine remains a leading exporter of agricultural products and a guarantor of food security in the world," the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine stressed. The parties discussed the importance of the Grain from Ukraine humanitarian initiative, which provides food aid to countries suffering from hunger.
They also touched upon the continuation of UN humanitarian support, especially given russia's deliberate destruction of Ukraine's energy infrastructure.
In conclusion, the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine expressed his gratitude to the President of the UN General Assembly for his personal commitment to advancing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. For the first time in history, the UN General Assembly held the Sustainable Development Week on 15-19 April this year under the personal leadership of Dennis Francis.
