The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Ruslan Stefanchuk met with the President of the Republic of Slovenia
First of all, the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Ruslan Stefanchuk and the President of the Republic of Slovenia, Nataša Pirc Musar, who arrived in Ukraine on a visit, paid tribute to the memory of the people's deputies of Ukraine and employees of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine who died as a result of the russian armed aggression, and to the memory of the servicemen of the National Guard of Ukraine who laid down their young lives defending the state, law and human dignity while serving near the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on 31 August 2015.
On behalf of the Ukrainian Parliament, the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine expressed gratitude to Slovenia for its financial, military and humanitarian assistance. He noted that Ukraine appreciates all the support provided.
Ruslan Stefanchuk also noted the importance of Slovenia's participation in the Global Peace Summit.
The topic of rebuilding Ukraine is also in focus. "Today, we have projects already implemented by Slovenia, in particular, the reconstruction of rehabilitation centres in Kharkiv and Zhytomyr region, the reconstruction of a hospital in Izium," the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine said, adding that Ukraine looks forward to expanding such cooperation.
At the same time, the Speaker of the Parliament of Ukraine thanked Slovenia for joining all 14 sanctions packages. "russia can be defeated, in particular, when we inflict economic pain on russia and deprive it of the opportunity to continue the war against Ukraine," he said.
The parties also discussed the development of an international compensation mechanism. "It is russia, putin and putin's regime that must receive a cheque for this war," stressed Ruslan Stefanchuk.
Finally, the parties paid considerable attention to the start of negotiations on Ukraine's accession to the European Union, which is a historic moment, and Ukraine's path to membership in the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation. For her part, Nataša Pirc Musar assured of further support for Ukraine and noted the recent decision of the Government of Slovenia to allocate five million euros for humanitarian initiatives.
