Updated free trade agreement with Canada can be useful for attracting business to recovery
Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal and Minister of Export Promotion, International Trade and Economic Development of Canada Mary Ng discussed the benefits of the updated Free Trade Agreement for both countries.
The updated agreement between Ukraine and Canada comes into force on 1 July. It is supplemented by new and updated chapters, including those on investment, cross-border trade in services, financial services, digital trade, etc.
“This agreement can also be useful for Canadian companies in restoring Ukrainian infrastructure,” the Prime Minister said.
Denys Shmyhal stressed that Ukraine was interested in attracting more Canadian businesses to key sectors that would be a priority for investment: oil and gas production, renewable energy, small modular reactors, green metallurgy, logistics and transport, IT and digitalisation, agricultural production, etc.
The Head of Ukrainian Government also noted the successful cooperation between CAMECO and Energoatom: “In fact, Canada has become our main supplier of nuclear fuel. We hope that other Canadian companies will follow this example.”
Denys Shmyhal expressed his gratitude to the people of Canada for their strong solidarity and to the Canadian government for its leadership in many areas of support for Ukraine.
