Denys Shmyhal and David Cameron discuss support for Ukraine’s energy sector

Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal met with UK Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs David Cameron in Kyiv.

The Head of Ukrainian Government expressed gratitude for the announcement of the largest package of military assistance, worth GBP 500 million, which will include air defence systems, ammunition, missiles, drones and other essential equipment. He described it as a significant contribution to strengthening Ukraine’s defence capabilities.

The parties also discussed economic and energy assistance. In particular, Denys Shmyhal briefed David Cameron on the consequences of russian terrorist attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure.

“We are actively working to decentralise the energy system, so we need more gas turbines, cogeneration units and mobile generators. We are counting on the UK’s support,” the Prime Minister of Ukraine said.

The officials also coordinated joint efforts to transfer frozen russian assets to Ukraine. Denys Shmyhal thanked David Cameron for his personal involvement.

“It is important that russia pays for its criminal war and that Ukraine quickly receives the necessary funds for resilience and recovery,” the Prime Minister of Ukraine stressed.

The parties also discussed Ukraine’s integration into NATO. Denys Shmyhal thanked the UK for its unwavering support.
