Dmytro Kuleba: Ukraine needs additional Patriot systems to protect its own and NATO's skies from Russian terror

On Thursday, April 4, during an official visit to Brussels, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmytro Kuleba visited NATO Headquarters to congratulate the Alliance on the 75th anniversary of its founding.

During a press briefing to international media, the Ukrainian Foreign Minister called on the allies to immediately provide Ukraine with additional batteries of Patriot air defense systems to counter Russian air terror.

"It is impossible to understand why the allies cannot find additional batteries to deliver them to a place where ballistic missiles are fired daily. In March alone, 94 ballistic missiles were fired at Ukraine. An average of 3 per day. This does not happen anywhere else in the world," the minister said.

Dmytro Kuleba reminded that Russia's aerial terror does not stop for a moment, and therefore it is important to stop it as soon as possible.

"Only last night about 20 Shahed drones attacked Kharkiv. As of now, 4 people have been killed. The attack was carried out in the most insidious way - the second drone flew after the first and killed those who came to help the victims after the first drone hit," the minister said.

The Foreign Minister emphasized that providing Ukraine with additional Patriot systems will not only protect our country's airspace, but will also make the skies of the NATO Alliance safer.

"We need to have more Patriot systems in Ukraine, because it will protect not only the Ukrainian sky, but also the NATO sky from Russian ballistic missiles," the Foreign Minister emphasized.

Answering journalists' questions about the possible unblocking of U.S. financial assistance to Ukraine and the position of U.S. Speaker of the House of Representatives Mike Johnson, Dmytro Kuleba noted that President Zelenskyy and Speaker Johnson had recently had a thorough conversation in this context. According to him, Speaker Johnson's recent public comments on this issue are optimistic. Ukraine expects real steps from its allies.

The Foreign Minister also expressed confidence that American assistance will come in any case.

In response to journalists' questions about possible ballistic missile deliveries to Russia from other countries, such as China or Iran, Dmytro Kuleba said that the Ukrainian side currently has no evidence that these countries have provided ballistic missiles to Russia.

I briefed Secretary Blinken on Russia's increased air terror against Ukrainian cities and communities, including with the use of ballistic missiles, and urged our American partners to find ways to provide additional "Patriot" air defense systems as soon as possible.

I am grateful to the Secretary for taking action right away to reciprocate this call.

Today’s NATO-Ukraine Council meeting demonstrated that all NATO allies realize how urgent this matter is. We all need it to be resolved as soon as possible”.
