The First Deputy Speaker Oleksandr Korniienko held a working meeting with the Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Moldova Mihai Popșoi
First of all, the First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Oleksandr Korniienko stressed that the Parliament of Ukraine is interested in continuing interparliamentary cooperation. He noted that such meetings would provide an opportunity to exchange experience and coordinate positions in this important area of legislative work.
The parties discussed, in particular, European integration issues. “The foreign policy priorities of Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova with regard to the European Union coincide – this is a solid basis for further development of bilateral relations and cooperation in the international arena,” said Oleksandr Korniienko. He added that Ukraine and Moldova need to make the most of the current window of opportunity to make the European integration of both countries an irreversible process.
At the same time, the First Vice-Speaker emphasised Ukraine's expectations regarding the personal participation of Moldovan President Maia Sandu in the Global Peace Summit.
In addition, Oleksandr Korniienko expressed gratitude for the fact that more than 100,000 Ukrainian citizens have found temporary shelter in Moldova. In particular, Moldova has allocated eight tranches of humanitarian aid to Ukraine in the amount of approximately seven million US dollars.
“Ukraine has consistently supported the territorial integrity of the Republic of Moldova within its internationally recognised borders,” the First Deputy Speaker said, noting that Ukraine appreciates the country's solidarity with the Ukrainian people and is grateful for the support and assistance in these difficult times.
The meeting was also attended by members of the Ukrainian Parliament: the Chairman of the Committee on National Health, Medical Assistance and Medical Insurance Mykhailo Radutskyi and the First Deputy Chairman of the Committee on Ukraine's Integration into the European Union Vadym Halaichuk.
