Spain will continue treatment and rehabilitation programmes for Ukrainian servicemen

The Deputy Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine met with the Ambassador of Spain to Ukraine, Ricardo López-Aranda Jagu.

At the beginning of the meeting, Olena Kondratiuk thanked Spain, represented by the Ambassador, for its comprehensive assistance and support to Ukraine, as Spain is among the leaders in supplying weapons to the Armed Forces and has made one of the largest contributions to the European Peace Fund worth EUR 400 million. She noted that Ukraine is also counting on assistance in engineering equipment, which is one of the most urgent needs of our Defence Forces.

The Vice-Speaker of the Ukrainian Parliament also stressed that Ukraine appreciates the advocacy and proactive parliamentary diplomacy carried out by the Spanish Parliament to support Ukraine.

“We are personally grateful to the President of the Spanish Congress of Deputies, Francina Armengol, for joining the joint letter of the heads of parliaments of the G7 countries, the EU and partner states to the Speaker of the US House of Representatives, M. She also emphasised that Spain's expertise, experience and ties with Latin America, one of the key regions of the Global South, are important for Ukraine. The interlocutors exchanged views on how to reach out to these countries, how to better convey the truth about russian aggression and its consequences, and how to counter russian propaganda, in particular through commitment to the values of international law and the protection of children's rights.

“We also discussed the continuation of treatment and rehabilitation programmes in Spain for wounded Ukrainian soldiers and veterans, as well as the organisation of holidays for Ukrainian children affected by the war,” emphasised Olena Kondratiuk.

For his part, Ricardo López-Aranda Jagu stressed that Spain would continue to actively support Ukraine. In particular, in the areas of security, humanitarian aid and gender equality, as well as taking an active part in initiatives to return Ukrainian children illegally deported by russia.
