We have offered Romania a pilot project on joint border and customs control at one of the crossing points
Romania has become Ukraine’s third largest trading partner in Europe, and we will strengthen the development of this mutually beneficial cooperation. This was stated by Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal during a joint briefing with Prime Minister of Romania Marcel Ciolacu in Bucharest on 18 August.
“Special attention in our cooperation with Romania is paid to the development of the Danube ports and Black Sea trade routes. We hope that expert consultations and joint work will allow us to lift restrictive measures on Ukrainian grain exports after 15 September. This is important for our economy and global food security,” said Denys Shmyhal.
The parties also agreed to strengthen cooperation in the development of border infrastructure.
“We have proposed to Romania to launch a pilot project on joint border and customs control at one of the crossing points. Such joint control will significantly reduce the time needed to cross the border,” said the Prime Minister of Ukraine.
According to Denys Shmyhal, Ukraine is also inviting Romanian companies to use its underground gas storage facilities and to strengthen cooperation in the commercial supply of electricity between the two countries’ state-owned companies.
