The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Ruslan Stefanchuk discussed implementation of the fifth point of the Peace Formula with foreign ambassadors

The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Ruslan Stefanchuk, together with representatives of the diplomatic corps and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, discussed the implementation of the fifth point of the Peace Formula of the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi on the implementation of the UN Charter and the restoration of Ukraine’s territorial integrity and world order.

“The implementation of the Peace Formula will not only return comprehensive, just and sustainable peace to Ukraine, but will also launch a renewal of the international security architecture, which will have real mechanisms to prevent conflicts in the future,” the Speaker of the Parliament of Ukraine stressed.

Ruslan Stefanchuk noted that improving the existing mechanisms for implementing the principle of respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity is a priority for any country.

“russia’s armed aggression has violated the universally recognised norms and principles of international law,” he said, stressing that it is important to consolidate efforts to restore international law and improve existing mechanisms for implementing the UN Charter, develop a common vision and fill gaps in the UN system, and increase the effectiveness of international courts.

The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine also stressed that the reform of the UN Security Council is also in the focus of attention, as the functioning of the body responsible for maintaining international peace and security is now blocked by the aggressor state, russia.

“We see abuse of the veto and conflict of interest, as the current rules and procedures do not provide for any restrictions for russia,” said Ruslan Stefanchuk.

He noted that the principle of justice and the introduction of accountability for states that disregard the principles of international law should be the basis for reforming the veto.

Any aggressor should know that preventive measures will be taken against it. And they must know that in case of aggression, they will be deprived of the right to influence the situation of peace in the world,” said Ruslan Stefanchuk, the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, during the Consultations on the implementation of the fifth point of the Peace Formula of the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi.
