Ukraine and the EU held Political Consultations

 

 

Ukraine-EU political consultations took place in Kyiv. The delegations of the parties were headed by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Yevhen Perebyinis and the Deputy Secretary General of the European External Action Service, Enrique Mora.

During the consultations the parties focused on the implementation of Ukraine's strategic plan to join the EU and on the ways to strengthen cooperation in the field of security. Particularly, Yevhen Perebyinis informed his interlocutors about the status of Ukraine's implementation of the recommendations of the European Commission and expressed hope that the European Union would take the decision to start the pre-accession negotiations with Ukraine by the end of 2023.

The European side assured that the European Union is determined to continue supporting Ukraine. Assistance to Ukraine in its fight against Russia`s aggression and the process of gaining full membership during wartime remain among the priorities of the EU`s agenda. The European Union highly values the contribution of Ukraine to ensuring the security of the European continent.

The parties discussed the current security developments in Ukraine amid Russia's full-scale war alongside further strengthening of pressure on the aggressor state and the engagement of international partners in the implementation of the Peace Formula by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

Another item on the agenda was how to arrange the further implementation of the Black Sea Grain Deal Initiative.

The delegations of Ukraine and the European External Action Service also discussed a wide range of issues on the international agenda.

Enrique Mora also separately met with Special Representative of Ukraine for the Middle East and Africa Maksym Subkh, who discussed with the European diplomat ways of coordinating joint actions aimed at involving the countries of the Global South in the fight for respect for international law.
