Olexandr Mischenko held a meeting with Ambassador of Japan Nakagome Masashi

 

 

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Olexandr Mischenko held a meeting with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Ukraine Nakagome Masashi.

Olexandr Mischenko noted the support that Japan continues to provide to Ukraine, in particular in the humanitarian, energy and financial spheres. The Ukrainian side also welcomed the recent decision of the Government of Japan to support the PURL initiative by contributing $15 million to the ninth aid package, as well as the decision of the Japanese Ministry of Defense to send several officers of the Japan Self-Defense Forces to the NSATU mission headquarters in Germany.

The agenda of the meeting focused on topical issues of Ukrainian-Japan cooperation, with special attention to the preparation of future contacts and exchange of visits at high and highest levels. In this context, the parties discussed the schedule of bilateral events this year, in particular at the level of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Parliaments, and in the economic and legal spheres.

Special attention was paid to the coordination of positions ahead of key international events, including the Ukraine Recovery Conference 2026 in Gdansk. The importance of Japan’s active role in supporting Ukraine’s recovery and resilience-building efforts was emphasized.

The sides confirmed their determination for further close interaction and coordination of efforts both at the bilateral level and within international platforms.
